Practice for the Cambridge PET exam
Being able to write the same thing using different words and expressions is a very useful skill and shows your ability to express yourself in English. Try the following exercises to practise.
Here are some sentences about work.
For each question, complete the second sentence so that it means the
same as the first.
Use no more than three words.
1. It is difficult to get a job where I live.
It is not very ........................................ to get a job where I live.
2. The company said I was too old to become a trainee.
The company said I wasn't ........................................ to become a trainee.
3. I will take the job if the pay is OK.
I won't take the job ........................................
the pay is OK.
4. The company has a great fitness centre.
........................................ a great fitness centre in the company.
5. I might get a job while I'm on holiday this summer.
I might get a job ........................................ the summer holiday.
Were there any questions above that you got wrong? Learn any
new patterns you find. The best way to do this is to use them
in sentences that mean something to you. For example, in question
5 we had this pattern:
I might get a job while I'm on holiday this summer.
I might get a job during the summer holiday.
