Good Luck!

Good luck to all Cambridge Exam candidates

Dear Cambridge FCE, CAE and CPE candidates

For those of you doing the exam soon Flo-Joe sends you our very best wishes for the big day. Here are some last minute exam tips:

BEFORE THE EXAM:

  • Arrive early
  • Take all the materials you need.
  • Stay relaxed - practise deep breathing.
  • Don't talk to other candidates about the exam.
  • Feel confident - focus on the last time you did something well and live the feeling again.

IN THE EXAM: GENERAL TIPS

  • Answer the easier parts/questions first.
  • In multiple choice questions ignore the answers you know are wrong.
  • Make sure you have answered all the questions.
  • Proofread your work for spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Fill in the answer sheets correctly and clearly.

PAPER 1: READING

  • Read the instructions for each question, even if you have done this type of question before in class.
  • Read the texts quickly for a general understanding before you tackle the question.
  • Use the context to help you guess words you don't understand - but remember that you can't afford to spend too much time lingering over difficult vocabulary. Use your time efficiently!
  • Try to find evidence in the text for your answers.
  • Take care when transferring your answers to the answer sheet.

PAPER 2: WRITING

  • Read the questions very carefully, underlining key words or expressions in the question that tell you what to include. Make sure you answer all the points raised in each question.
  • Try to include a good range of language and be aware of who you are writing for.
  • Give yourself 5 minutes at the beginning to collect ideas and think about organisation. Try to allow a few minutes at the end to check your writing for any inaccuracies.
  • In Part 1, try to use your own words rather than copying chunks from the question.

PAPER 3 - USE OF ENGLISH

  • Read the instructions for each question, even if you have done this type of question before in class.
  • Quickly read the texts first to get a general understanding of the topic and a 'feel' for the text.
  • Leave a few minutes at the end (if you can) to check your spelling.
  • Write clearly, so the examiner doesn't have problems trying to read your handwriting.
  • Don't leave any gaps empty. You may be lucky!

AFTER THE EXAM:

  • Try not to compare answers with your colleagues - it's too late to change your answer!
  • Go out and enjoy yourself!!

With best wishes for your exam success and let us know how you get on.
