Task type: Letter of application


Content
Should address each of the five questions in the course advertisement in full, and mention any other relevant information.

Communicative achievement
Formal register. The school Principal would be informed and would have a clear understanding of the preferred type of English course.

Organisation
Should have the layout of a formal letter with an appropriate beginning and ending. Should state the reason for writing in the first paragraph ('I am writing to apply for a course at the Effective Learning School...'). Should be divided into paragraphs but no more than three. N.B. In the exam you do not have to write addresses.

Language
Language of description. Vocabulary relating to language learning and methods (e.g. level of proficiency, intensive course, self-access facilities, etc)
Should not contain major errors that lead to misunderstandings or that irritate the reader.
