Introduction
We are a group of students who have just taken the FCE examination. With this experience fresh in our minds, we are writing this report to give you suggestions about how you can best prepare for and take the examination. When reading this document, we recommend that you look at an FCE Practice Test and compare the contents of one of the tests with our hints.

General Points
Try not to be nervous and make sure you leave enough time at the end of each paper to check your answers.

Paper One: Reading
Part 1

1) Cross out the answer which has already been used as the example answer.
2) Try to find the key word in each sentence.
3) Don’t try to understand every word.

Part 2
1) To begin with, read the whole text quickly to get a general idea.
2) Try to make your own answers to the questions given, then compare these with the suggested answers and then select those which are closest to yours.

Part 3
1) All the lines are connected to make one text – don’t just read each line separately.
2) Cross out the word which has been used as the example answer.

Part 4
To begin with, read through the texts and decide what each is about. Then try to choose the most appropriate answer(s).

Paper Two: Writing
Part 1 & Part 2

1) Try your best to understand what the questions are about. This is very important.
2) Make sure your writing is of the right type. For example, when you write a letter, make sure you put “Dear _________” at the beginning and “Yours sincerely/faithfully” at the end.
3) Remember to leave a space after each paragraph.
4) Try not to write too many paragraphs (four or five maximum) and try not to exceed the 180 words limit.
