1 The following sentences contain the
kind of spelling and punctuation errors often found in the paper 3 Error
Correction exercise. Underline the mistake in each sentence. Sp = spelling,
P = punctuation
a) I've recieved lots of birthday
cards this year. (Sp)
b) If you look between those two mountains you can see the see. (Sp)
c) She's been totally imobile since she hurt her back. (Sp)
d) I don't know wether to go out tonight or not. (Sp)
e) Look at that bird. It's wing's injured. (P)
f) We're having a lovely time. However the weather isn't very good. (P)
g) The prime minister, who was touring the town, refused to comment. (P)
h) Police are looking for a thirty-year old man who was believed to be in
the area. (P)

3 Read the following
film review. Do you know which film is being described?
The film is set in 16th Century England, and tells the story
of the writing of a very famous play by a very famous playwright.
The playwright has been asked to produce a play for a theatre
company in london which is in competition with another company
nearby. While the hero is writing the play he meets and falls
in love with a beautifull woman who is also very interested
in acting. However at this time it is not aceptable for women
to act on stage so she decides to dress up as a man and try
to get a part in the play, that is being written. Unfortunately
her father has also promised her hand in marriage to an important
nobleman who she doesnt love and who would be very angry if
he discovers she is acting in a play.
Eventually her secret is discovered and the authoritys arrive
and close the theatre At the same time the woman is forced to
marry the nobleman she dislikes and to part from the playwright
who she loves dearly.
Eventually the owner of the other theatre offers to hold the
first performance of the play and it takes place in front of
a packed audience. The womans role is taken by another person.
However, this person becomes very nervous and cannot go on to
the stage. The woman is in the audience and here's of the problem
so she offers to go on stage herself.
